Warm Weather Blues

I suppose this look would be better reserved for a cooler fall day, but when we received this sequin sweater in the shop the other day, I just couldn't resist trying it on. I mean, who doesn't like sequins? It’s a bit more of a pre-fall style, but hey, living in Michigan means that tomorrow it might even snow and since we're tough here in the north, it also means ballet flats are totally acceptable in below freezing temperatures! xxoo

Supongo que este look sería mejor reservado para un día más fresco, pero el otro día en la tienda, recibimos este top y no podía resistir la tentación. De verdad, a quién no le gustan las lentejuelas? Es un estilo un poco más pre-otoño, pero vamos, el vivir en Michigan quiere decir que a lo mejor mañana estará nevando y ya que somos muy duros aquí en el norte, también quiere decir que mis zapatos estilo bailarinas también son aceptables en temperaturas bajo cero! xxoo

Business in the Front, Party in the Back

They're popping up all over. The high-low hem trend on dresses and skirts seems to be everywhere. A couple years ago I jumped on the bandwagon when I was living in Spain and bought a couple high-low dresses from Zara. Now, here in West Michigan, the trend is in full force. I'm loving this black and red dress by Ya. It's like the dress version of a mullet. Is there anything better?

Están por todas partes. El vestido 'alto largo' que digo yo. Vestidos, camisas, faldas; parece que esta tendencia está en todas las tiendas. Hace un par de años, empecé a llevar esta tendencia cuando estaba viviendo en España. Ahora, aquí en Michigan, parece que está llegando esta moda justo ahora. Me encanta este vestido de Ya. Es como ese corte de pelo feo de los ‘80s en versión vestido! Hay algo mejor?

  The other day was so hot and humid, all I wanted to do was grab my bathing suit and head to the beach. Even though we have air conditioning, I still decided to wear this very lightweight dress, light jewelry, and some strappy shoes. Pretty soon we will be complaining about the snow here in Michigan, but for now it's darn hot!

El otro día hacia tanto calor y humedad que lo único que quería hacer era coger mi bañador e irme a la playa. Aunque hay aire acondicionado en la tienda, todavía hacia calor; por eso decidí ponerme este vestido estilo veraniego, poca bisutería, y unas sandalias. Muy pronto estaremos quejándonos de la nieve aquí en Michigan, pero por ahora hace calooooor!

Girly Girl

I think I can speak for all women when I say that we all have days when all we feel like doing is pulling our hair back into a ponytail and putting on whatever we can find with an elastic waistband! However, sometimes we also get in the mood to dress up as girly as possible because, as much as I love stretch pants (!), wearing a skirt isn't so bad either! xxoo

Creo que hablo para todas las mujeres cuando digo que todas tenemos días cuando lo único que nos apetece hacer es nooo tocarnos el pelo y ponernos lo que sea, con tal de que tenga cintura de elástico! Sin embargo, hay veces que también nos apetece ponernos guapas. Aunque me encantan los pantalones tipo yoga (!), llevar una falta tampoco esta tan mal! xxoo

Hippie, Dippy, Trippy

I am so glad that maxi skirts and dresses have recently become more popular because it's a style I have always loved, but had a hard time finding cute colors and patterns in without looking like Laura Ingalls Wilder.  Although I am I self-proclaimed hippie (I mean, who doesn't love feathers and peace signs?), I do like to keep myself from looking too much like a character from Little House on the Praire. So, for this outfit I paired a more crisp, classic top with a funky maxi skirt. Final result? Fun and Funky!

Me alegro tanto de que las faldas largas recientemente se han hecho más populares porque es un estilo que siempre me ha gustado, pero que siempre me ha costado encontrar patrones y colores que me gustaban sin parecerme a la Laura Ingalls Wilder. Aunque yo diga que soy una hippie (vamos, a quien no le gustan las plumas y los símbolos de paz?), sí que me gusta evitar parecerme un personaje de La Casa de la Pradera. Así que, para este conjunto he combinado una camisa blanca de botones mas clásica con una falda larga. Resulto final? Divertido y diferente!

Retro Revival

I find that retro styles constantly call my name. From Marilyn Monroe to Brigitte Bardot; there are so many women whose style I love to emulate. Recently, I have been slightly addicted to Mad Men and not just because of the racy plot and the drama! The clothes of the '50s and '60s were feminine, clean, and showed off a woman's figure. This retro dress with a red lip {of course} is my modern take on the era. Throw a leopard clutch in the mix, and you're set! xxoo

Siempre me llaman la atención los estilos tipo retro. Como Marilyn Monroe y Brigitte Bardot; hay tantas mujeres de esa época que tenían un estilo que me gustaría emular. Recientemente, he confesado mi adicción a la serie Mad Men! La ropa de los '50 y los '60s era femenina y mostraba la silueta de la mujer. Este vestido retro es mi idea moderna de la época, con labios rojos {por supuesto}. Añade un bolsito de leopardo y estas lista! xxoo

Down To Earth

After I finished my master's degree, I moved back home from having been living abroad in Spain for several years. Although it has been a slow transition back into the daily (American!) grind, I had a place full of supportive people to help me feel at home again. My friends {co-workers} at our local boutique, 'Down To Earth' have really made me feel at home, the energy in the shop is so positive, and well, down to earth!

Después de haber terminado mi máster, volví a estados unidos después de haber estado viviendo en España varios años. Aunque ha sido una transición mas bien lenta, tuve la suerte de tener un sitio lleno de gente positiva para ayudarme con el cambio. Mis amigas {compañeras de trabajo} en la boutique 'Down to Earth' me han hecho sentirme realmente en casa.

Hi everyone, I am Kelsey!  I am from a small town in beautiful Western Michigan, along the shores of Lake Michigan.  I have lived in the Valencia, Spain for the past few years.  I have recently come back to the mitten state to get back to my roots, but, like they say; you can take the girl out of Spain, but not Spain out of the girl (well, okay, maybe nobody says this)!  I have returned with many memories, ideas, and most of all, many outfits I hope to share with you all!  Enjoy! xxoo
